Maybe we can agree that India is blessed to have two brilliant actors ....with universal appeal. Lol.We cool? :)

Can Aamir play Devdas? Can SRK play Mangal Pandey?Who's to say yes or no? A hypothetical question produces suggestions but not answers, hence it can NOT prove anything, as you seem to believe. Personally, I liked Dilip Kumar's performance better. Dilip was a sufferer, SRK just cried a lot (I'm over-emphasizing here).but OMG I loved the production value of Devdas!!!! Even the best Hollywood musicals cannot come close to it in terms of pomp and spectacle. Mad and Aish were brilliant.

thnkx for the invite...Its good that arguments have something positive too.

....we'll just forever be stating the obvious. I believe we actually agree on this point. But in the wonderful world of subjectivity, definitions are up for grabs. We call it what feels right to our own biases. Sad but true. :(

All awards are subjective choices by nature. However the recognition of a foreign talent in a film industry that is arguably the biggest in its universal exposure is a significant achievement. So, still no Oscar nomination for SRK?

... 'would have'? Aamir IS a great actor, and from the films he has thus far produced, I see all three characteristics. I've heard SRK has done his fair share of mockery too (on stage). Does he lack discipline too? No actor is excused from human flaws, secondly petty arguments is a necessary evil of the fame game, and thirdly it has nothing to do with an artist's work (but apparently to some, it does).

In that context, Bollywood is demographically universal, and in popular terms, SRKs fan base is simply mass appeal (personally, this isnt particularly significant of a persons artistic integrity, ie. Britney Spears). Philosophically and artistically (which is closer to our topic), movies (and by extension, art) is by nature universal, or at least seeks universality through collectively relevant themes and ideas. No actor or film industry has any exclusive right to that definition.

Just 1 thing...can Aamir play SRK's role in Devdas..lol. No other actor (except the great Dilip Kumar of course) can play such a role Well thats enough to prove what a King is. |
