I have also travelled across Canada by train... for pleasure! VIA Rail has taken me from the Pacific coast and through the majestic Canadian Rockies to the great cities of Eastern Canada. Cities I have visited on my train travels: Vancouver, Calgary, Wnnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City, and Halifax. viarail.ca.

what amazing trains & railways you have in Canada! You've to be proud!! A railway system is the mirror of a country. all the best from Spain.

I'm taking The Canadian from Toronto to Vancouver and BACK AGAIN! this Christmas. I'm salivating! I can't wait for this dream experience!! There is NOTHING like train travel. I had a hellish plane trip to Vancouver last winter, and plan on taking the train for now on. Costs more? Yes. But worth every bloody penny!

It was better, train travel in Canada is nice, though isn't as good as it use to be. Calgary hasn't had intercity train service since 1990.

That was when it was still "The Canadian", now what we have is really "The Super Continental" rebranded as "The Canadian".

Yes, the original Canadian was by CP, and continued with VIA on the southern CP route. Now the Canadian travels on the northern CN route, and it was actually called the Super Continental until VIA cut most of its routes in 1990.
